So, what are curtain bangs?

Curtain bands are a type of fringe. Not covering your whole forehead, they drape (like curtains) from your parting down to the outer of the corners of your eyes. A popular style in the 90s, curtain bangs were worn by many of your Hollywood faves, including Julia Roberts, Jennifer Aniston and Winona Ryder. Suiting most face shapes, curtain bangs had their big moment in the spotlight in 2021, but they’re staying around for 2022…too! Chic and trendy, we’re obsessed with them.

Can anyone pull off curtain bangs?

Curtain bangs are universal and they work well with most hair types and lengths. From pixie cuts to shoulder length curtain bangs, as long as they blend into the rest of your hair, they’ll work and they’ll be effortless to maintain. However, if you have really thin hair that doesn't hold any type of curl or volume, then curtain bangs may not be for you. Curtain bangs are usually more suited for those with thick hair as thick hair tends to be better at holding volume.

What types of curtain bangs are there?

1. Relaxed Curtain Bangs

Relaxed curtain bangs are all about that grown-out look. If it’s your first time cutting in curtain bangs, this could be a good place to start as they tend to be longer and are easier to grow out if you decide you’re not into them. Relaxed curtain bangs are perfect if you have shoulder length hair or longer.

2. Tousled Curtain Bangs

Perfect for if you have a bit of texture to your hair, tousled bangs have a more natural vibe. Using a dry texture spray can aid you when styling!

3. Shoulder Length Curtain Bangs

Shoulder length curtain bangs are typically longer and provide a flattering framing effect around the face. This style can work well for longer hair where the length of the bangs blends seamlessly with the rest of your hair. With the right styling techniques, shoulder length curtain bangs can be easily incorporated into your daily hair routine for a chic and trendy look.LONG-Curtain-Bangs_In-Blog_990px_thealmostphd

Curtain Bangs VS Actual Bangs

These two styles are very different, so you should think carefully before deciding on one or the other. Curtain bangs will give you a lot more control over your look, and they tend to last longer than traditional bangs.

Curtain bangs are definitely more challenging to maintain, so you have to be willing to invest the time in styling your hair every day. On the other hand, Actual Bangs are much easier for lazy girls, so if that's your personality, then this is the right hairstyle choice for you.

How to curl curtain bangs and style them to suit you:

The best way to get your hands on some serious volume is by blow-drying your hair with a big round brush. This will help create that rounded, voluminous shape - you could also use a curling iron for this. Start at the roots and work your way towards the crown of your head to make sure every section is curled evenly. Finish by brushing through with a regular brush to give it that perfect finish. Set the style with a light hairspray and finish with some dry shampoo. The dry shampoo will absorb excess oils, while the hairspray helps it stay in place. Curtain bangs can be high maintenance, so be prepared to regularly style them to keep them looking perfect!

If you have been thinking of trying curtain bangs for longer than you'd like to admit, it's probably time to give them a try.
