So, how do you do twist braid styles on yourself? Good question. It can be tricky the first few times you try it  on yourself, but it is straightforward once you get into a rhythm. You'll just need to take your time, be gentle with your hair and practise.

Here’s some of our favourite twist braid styles.

1. Twist & Curls: This is one of the best twist braid hairstyles for medium length hair. With simple twist plaits on both sides, pull off to create twist curls in the end.

2. Twist Around Ponytail: To get twist braid hairstyles to look good for a long hairstyle, pull the ponytail high up on your head, twist and pin around it until you reach the ponytail end.

3. Twisted Mini Bun: For a twist braid hairstyle perfect for medium length hairstyles, twist and wrap your own mini twist bun before pinning it up.

Rope twist braid

Some styles such as rope twist braids are simple, low maintenance, and long-lasting. It's a perfect protective style for summer and certainly takes your curly twist-out look to a whole new level.

A rope twist braid can be created on any type of twist-out, a twist-out using your natural hair texture, a kinky twist-out, or even curly twist braids. The best part about rope twist braid is that it's pretty simple. You don't need to twist your hair in a certain way to achieve this style. You can twist however you like, and it will still look great!

Steps to follow for this twist out style:

1. After twisting out is complete, section off hair into two sections (top and bottom) or as many sections as you want to, depending on the length of your hair.

2. Take a twisted piece, twist it in the same direction you twist hair when doing a twist-out, and tie off with an elastic band. Don't worry about your hair looking too messy before you begin to braid it. Just twist and go.

3. When you get to the end of your twist section, take another section and twist it in the same direction.

4. Continue this technique until all twists are done or sectioned off to create a rope twist braid.

5. When your twist out is complete, use a good oil to seal your ends and scrunching gel for added definition if desired. Then twist the strands into a twist braid.

6. Add a satin scarf or bonnet at night for added moisture and style as desired the next day. Always make sure the twist-out is completely dry before removing the twist braid.

7. Remove twist braid and enjoy your twist-out hairstyle.

How To Keep Your Braids Looking Fresh, Not Fuzzy

  • If you’ve got very curly or coily hair, you shouldn't wash your hair every day because it dries out your strands. Instead, you should use a conditioner and leave it 7-10 days before rewashing it.
  • When you shower, twist your hair into buns to keep it from getting frizzy.
  • Don’t twist your braids too tightly or they’ll pop out.
